The Annual Thurgarton Duck Race took place as usual on Boxing Day at the Beck. A record entry of 217 ducks took part compared to 147 ducks last year.
As well as having a good time, the many people who lined the Beck also enabled a £120 charitable donation to Help for Heroes, this being about half of the entry money. Please find acknowledgement of receipt of these funds from Help for Heroes attached.
It never fails to amaze me how much pleasure folk get out of this quirky and special village event. There was certainly plenty of competitiveness on the day, and the TCA kept us warm with mulled wine.
After the 3 heats and the final the lucky winners were:
- First prize of £50 went to Jane Day
- Second prize of £30 went to Donald Kennard
- Third prize of £17 went to Richard Glen
Thanks to the volunteers that helped this year go so smoothly – the 2 Phil’s who manned the finish line, who were especially employed from outside the village to ensure fair play!!, Charles Day who started each race, Duck Shepherd Sam Spencer who manfully encouraged the ducks downstream, and IT Duck, Darryl North, who set up the on-line Duck registration.
