Thurgarton Cricket Club has come a long way since its official inception in 1875.
One thing that hasn't changed much though is the view from the pavilion. Visitors to the Priory Ground can enjoy cricket in the grounds of a stately home surrounded by a variety of mature trees. Two magnificent trees occupy the playing area too. Thurgarton church completes the view. Such was the appeal of the ground that it was chosen to feature in an official Wisden calendar as one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in Britain. It is certainly a lovely place for visitors to come to watch cricket and sample refreshments from our licenced bar.
The Club runs two adult league sides on both Saturday and Sunday and an Evening league team. The thriving Junior section has teams from Kwik Cricket through to under 17's.
We also accommodate the 'Nottingham Knights', the County's visually impaired cricket team. Each year we also organise a tour to North Devon. New playing and non-playing members are all welcome.
Thurgarton Cricket Club holds both 'Clubmark' and 'Focus group' accreditations and is dedicated to providing competitive, recreational cricket to all age groups. Future plans include improvement to the playing facilities (the Priory Ground has been renowned for having a low and slow wicket) as well as redevelopment of the pavilion.
All members of Thurgarton CC will be looking forward to each new season as much as our predecessors were in 1875.
