Thurgarton Women's Institute

The WI is a modern voice for today's woman offering all kinds of opportunities for all kinds of women.

The WI is as relevant today as when it was launched in Britain in 1915. It is a diverse and multifaceted organisation. Its concerns are wide ranging and today's campaigns range from children's diet to the environment, from human trafficking to supermarkets. The WI is here to enable women to 'make a difference' to the community they are part of and to the world they live in.

Thurgarton WI has been part of the village community for the past 65 years. During that time members have voiced their opinions on local topics such as village lighting, upkeep of the war memorial and traffic problems. We have provided entertainment at parties and teas for village events.

We are a relatively small WI with 18 members and you are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome. Meetings are held in Thurgarton Village Hall on Bleasby Road, NG14 7FW on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Meetings start at 7.30pm and are relaxed and social events where catching up with each other is a priority. New ladies are welcome to pop along on the night or contact us in advance for a chat.

We have a programme of speakers for the coming year plus extra events such as garden visits , a monthly lunch club and theatre visits. We are part of the Nottinghamshire Federation of WIs who also organise events for members with the opportunity to learn, develop and pass on skills. We believe that being part of the WI is all about making friends, working as a team and having fun.
