Thurgarton Emergency Plan update
Posted: Mar 8, 2017

Councillor Natalie Robinson launched a refresh of the Thurgarton Emergency Plan (TEP) with a kick-off meeting on 28th February attended by TEP Area Co-ordinators and Deputies.

The purpose of the meeting was to run through the roles, responsibilities of the Co-ordinators, walk through the emergency process and discuss what else we needed to do to improve the plan.

There was great engagement and participation with a number of ideas put forward including the importance of communication and how we ensure the rest of the village are kept informed of the Plan.

Red Lion Planning Application... has been approved. Thurgarton Parish Council had voted to reject plans for several reasons including concerns over the retention of the pub for the village. I am delighted to report that one of the conditions of the planning permission is that "no more than 2 residential dwellings shall be occupied until the ground and first floor refurbishment works to the public house have been completed such that the public house is fit for occupation and trading."
The reason given is "to ensure the former pub building is brought back into use in the interests of visual amenity, to ensure the retention of a community facility and in order to preserve the character and appearance of the Conservation Area."

New Parish Councillor... Chris Peach, was voted to be co-opted on to the Council.

Neighbourhood Plan... many thanks to the 91 parishioners who responded to the pre-submission survey, the overall result was that the vast majority supported all the proposed policies. As a result of this feedback a number of alterations were made resulting in the Thurgarton Neighbourhood Plan, Submission version which was submitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council along with the Consultation Statement and Basic Conditions Statement. These documents are available both on the village web site and at Southwell Library.

Thurgarton Emergency Plan (TEP)... Councillor Natalie Robinson is arranging a meeting on 28th Feb for all TEP Co-ordinators and Deputies to review TEP processes and provide an update to the TEP village database. The TEP needs a new person to perform the role of Base, this is central to the co-ordination and communication of the TEP in the event of any emergency. If you are interested in taking this role please contact me ASAP.

Precept... will be increased for the year 17/18 from the current £24.60 per year per household (for a Band D property) to £26.98 per year per household (for a Band D property). Other Band properties will see a proportionate increase. This decision was taken in light of the year 17/18 being underfunded in order to achieve basic village maintenance works and to bring the precept paid in Thurgarton more in line with other local villages.

Date of Next Meeting...The next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 23rd February at 7.30 pm in the Methodist Chapel.
