Thurgarton Parish Council Meeting 28th October

01/11/2021

Remembrance Sunday Service….will be held on 14th November at midday at Corner Croft, all parishioners are invited to attend.

40 mph Buffer zones….have now been implemented. Thurgarton Parish Council, in response to speeding issues in the village, have been working with Notts County Council (NCC) Highways or VIA over the last 6+ years. Thanks are extended to Charles Day and Steve Edkins, 2 retired Parish Councillors who had worked on this means of reducing speeding in the village, which has been an important issue and key objective for the village for some years.

New projects…. the Parish Council are:-

  • investigating a suitable area of land to site a childrens’ playground for the village
  • investigating a village communal space for planting trees and to socialise
  • setting up a working party to consider how we might improve the carbon footprint of the village.

All parishioners who could help with any of these projects are asked, in the first instance, to contact the Clerk at clerk@thurgarton.org.uk

Village environment…. a regular schedule of works is undertaken monthly to keep our village looking good. Assistance has been offered by Forterra for their to staff to undertake jobs when they are available to do so. Tall white daisies and red poppies are to be planted at the entrances to the village on A612.

Bleasby Rd flooding…. following cleaning and checking of the drainage system on Bleasby Rd by VIA recently it is anticipated that the previous flooding after heavy rain between the Village Hall and Maleys Cottage will no longer occur. We are waiting for more heavy rain to prove this solution.

Newark and Sherwood District Council (NSDC)…. have asked that:-

  • parishioners who are completing school placement forms for next year do so ASAP and that they also name a second choice of school on the form
  • parishioners consider becoming foster parents as NSDC are desperate to find suitable people

Date of Next Meeting.… the next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 25th November at 7.30 pm, this will be a public meeting at the Village Hall.

Tina Tsoukatos, Chair, Thurgarton Parish Council
