We need new Parish Councillors.…Katie Chan has resigned from the Parish Council (PC) after some 9 years’ service. Also, Natalie Robinson has resigned after serving the Parish for 10 years. I know that they both felt that this was the appropriate time for them to step down and allow new parishioners to contribute to the work of the Council. So, if you would like the opportunity to serve your community please let me know.
Children’s playground and Community space.…this project is all set for the next stage which is fundraising, so please look out for more information by email.
IDB Flood alleviation solution.…The purchase of the land by the Internal Drainage Board (IDB) to provide an overflow water storage area is still in process. We have now missed the spring window for this work to be done so the likelihood is that this work will not be undertaken until November 2026. Negotiations with landowners to incorporate Natural Flood Management (NFM) on their land, upstream of the Beck, is ongoing.
Parking on the pavements….Parishioners are requested not to park their cars on the pavements in the village please. Our pavements are narrow and when a car is parked on there, it becomes impossible for people to pass safely, particularly people with children, pushchairs, mobility scooters and dogs. This means that people are forced to walk on the road which is clearly not safe or acceptable.
Flag….a new Union Flag has been purchased and is now flying over the village.
Rain gauge….a rain gauge has been purchased, fully funded by a local grant, and will soon be attached to the back of the Village Hall. The plan is to present information from the rain gauge on the village web site. Further, the intention is to bring together information from the Beck Monitor, the Rain Gauge and by utilising a forecasting engine from Lowdham to be better able to forecast when the Beck may overtop.
Annual Parish Meeting…. All Parishioners are invited to the Annual Parish Meeting (APM), a public meeting at the Village Hall, which is scheduled for Thursday, 28th May at 6pm. This is not a PC meeting, although it is arranged by the PC. The APM is an opportunity for Parishioners to bring matters of interest to the PC’s attention, so please either request an agenda item or come along and discuss. The PC will arrange for interesting speakers to attend so that you can hear what is happening in and around your village.
Date of Next Meetings.…. The next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on the 28th May, commencing after the APM, between 7pm and 7:30pm. This will be a public meeting at the Village Hall.

Pot Holes….the very poor state of the roads around the village, being riddled with pot holes, was again discussed. It was agreed to send a letter to VIA complaining about the state of the roads and requesting urgent better quality repair of the pot holes. Roger Jackson, our Notts County Councillor, told us that there is considerably more funding available for repair of pot holes in the next financial year starting April 2026.
