Thurgarton Parish Council Meeting 25th May 2023

New Parish Councillor….Jeremy Ross was co-opted on to the Parish Council and will replace Austin Brady who has resigned.

Parish Council election….Tina Tsoukatos was elected as Chair and David Lewis was elected as Vice Chair.

Parish Council Strategy Roles….the following roles were agreed – Natalie Robinson Emergency Measures, Katie Chan Highways, Denise Bryant Environment, David Lewis Village Hall, Roger Foster Planning, Jeremy Ross Projects and Tina Tsoukatos Communications.

Parish Survey….a survey will be sent to all parishioners in the next few weeks, this will help to establish how parishioners would like the precept, the local tax, to be spent. The survey will seek to discover what the main concerns and desires of the parishioners are. In this way, it is planned that all parishioners may influence the annual objectives and general work of the Parish Council.

PC Objectives for the year….will be agreed once the results of the Parish Survey have been analysed

Village Fete 2023….the rearranged Village Fete is now planned for 9th September, please save this date.

Date of Next Meeting….the next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 29th June at 7:30pm, this will be a public meeting at the Village Hall.

Thurgarton Parish Council Meeting 27th April 2023

District & County Councillor….Roger Jackson reported that there will be a glass collection service, in conjunction with your rubbish and recycling collection, starting sometime before Christmas this year. Also, he noted that as you live in Thurgarton you can gain free entry to the Civil War Museum in Newark.

May elections….uncontested elections have taken place for the parish council in Thurgarton so Councillors Denise Bryant, Katie Chan, Natalie Robinson, David Lewis, Roger Foster and Tina Tsoukatos remain on the Parish Council. Elections for local government positions will take place on Thursday 4th May and voting will be at the Village Hall.

Thurgarton People….it was agreed to increase the Parish Council contribution to Thurgarton People by £50 to £200 per year.

Village Fete 2023….will take place on 8th May, which is the Bank Holiday Monday, in celebration of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Easter Breakfast….Thurgarton Village Hall Easter Breakfast is back on Saturday, 8th April, served from 10am until 11:30am including Eggs Benedict / Eggs Royale with Tea / Coffee / Juice at £4 or Hot Cross Bun with Tea / Coffee / Juice at £2.50. Plus Easter Egg hunt and Easter Bonnet competition.

Village Spring Clean….was rearranged to Saturday 29th April. Please come along, support your village and lend a hand. Meet at the War Memorial at 10:30am. Cakes and hot drinks for the volunteers at the Red Lion afterwards.

Localism…Thurgarton Parish Council (TPC) have entered into an agreement with Notts County Council to provide a number of maintenance jobs within the village. For this work TPC will receive £960 per year for 3 years. Many of these tasks were already being undertaken, on behalf of and paid for, by TPC, so this arrangement represents a saving for the village.

Thurgarton Parish Council Meeting 26th January 2023

Precept…an increase of approximately 10% or £1,207 per annum was voted in, this will mean an increase of approximately 50p per month for each household. As a consequence of this increase it was agreed that the Parish Council would keep the maintenance of the village to the same standard.

Village Hall Refurbishment VAT claim….after taking professional legal and accounting advice a mistake in the VAT Claim for the Village Hall refurbishment has been acknowledged. This matter is now to be resolved by liaising with HMRC.

Property Flood Protection….kit has been provided to most properties on Beck St and Station Rd by Notts County Council Flood Risk Management team, all free of charge.

  • Public consultation on the Devolution of East Midlands Councils starts 14th November, leading to probable elections in May 2024
  • Glass collection service is probable to start next year, currently out to consultation
  • Garden waste service will be charged at £37 pa from next year

Remembrance Sunday Service….will be held on Sunday 13th November at midday at Corner Croft

Village Party….will be held at the Village Hall on Friday 25th November.
