Josh’s Defibrillator

08/07/2021

In memory of Josh Downie, we are raising funds for a defibrillator at Priory Ground, Thurgarton by walking (approximately 40 miles) to the three clubs in Nottingham he played for.

Any donations and support to the cause, would be extremely appreciated!

Defibrillator….it has been agreed upon to replace the housing unit of the defibrillator as the keypad is currently not working correctly. This will be done ASAP.

Flood mitigation –
Beck Street….unfortunately the site that has been looked at for the flood mitigation solution for Beck Street is no longer viable.  A further area is currently being investigated by the Internal Drainage Board (IDB) scheme. Due to this change, it is now estimated that this project will take place in 2022.

Flood mitigation –
Bleasby Road….in August VIA will be undertaking a survey on Bleasby Road to understand the flooding issues in more depth to be able to come up with a plan.

Dog Poo Bin….
the emptying of the dog poo bin on the Hollows will now be done on a weekly basis rather than fortnightly.

Speed Watch….
it is expected that speed watch will start up again once COVID restrictions have been relaxed more after the 19th July.  If you are interested in getting involved in this as a new starter or an old hand please contact Margaret Edkins or the Parish Council.

Date of Next Meeting.
… the next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 22nd July at 7.30 pm, this will be a public meeting at the Village hall and members of the public who would like to join the meeting should send their details to the Clerk at clerk@thurgarton.org.uk

Church’s response to the easing out of lockdown

30/03/2021

As a Benefice we are tentatively proposing a roadmap back to in-person worship. It takes account of increasing numbers of double dose vaccinations and the government’s 4 step plan that is linked to the reduction of virus prevalence in communities.

We hope to return from Pentecost Sunday 23rd May, but are very aware this might be put back by any number of external forces affecting the roadmap. We are glad that all 7 parish churches are open for private prayer/visits each week see below.

Worship continues of course both on an individual level and through the consistently well attended zoom worship. As the Easter season of hope approaches please feel free to ask for an invitation to one or all of these opportunities to sense there is more to life than covid restriction.

Maundy Thursday – 1st April 7.00pm. A quiet ‘Tenebrae’ reflection.

Good Friday – 2nd April 3.00pm. A virtual walk through the Benefice churches and John’s Gospel account of Jesus walk to the cross.

Easter (and every) Sunday – 5th April 10.30am. A celebration of resurrection hope despite the experience of wilderness.

Blessings
The Revd Phil

Thurgarton Parish Council Meeting 25th March

27/03/2021

Thurgarton Emergency Plan (TEP)…. a refresh of the TEP continues. This includes adding volunteers, training/retraining all volunteers, improving the TEP resources and storage and reviewing all of the associated documents. Refreshing the database of all parishioners will be a task undertaken over the coming few months so please be aware why this is happening. Please do volunteer to join the TEP team, there are a variety of roles that might suit including flood co-ordinator for an area of the village, putting up flood road signage, contacting people with TEP information or simply a volunteer who is allocated a job on the day of an emergency. Full training is provided and all work undertaken has been risk assessed and is COVID safe. If you’re interested please contact clerk@thurgarton.org.uk

Highways…. the public consultation  on the speed reduction to 40mph zones around the village was well received and these works are now being scheduled. Recent improvements in the village were arranged including repairing a water pipe under Bleasby Rd, filling pot holes, planning to address the collapse of the road on the Hollows and clearing fly tipping.

New Flag…. a new flag is now proudly flying in the village

Our beautiful Village…. please be aware that the regular work to keep our village beautiful will be starting again shortly.

Date of Next Meeting…. the next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 22nd April at 7.30 pm, this will be a public virtual meeting, members of the public who would like to join the meeting should send their details to clerk@thurgarton.org.uk

Thurgarton Parish Council Meeting 26th November

27/11/2020

Remembrance Sunday…. as we were unable to have a normal Remembrance Service this year, due to COVID, the Parish Council is arranged to have a recorded Remembrance Service to view on the village web site, this was well received as it was viewed on 65 occasions. Thanks are sent to David Yates who provided the Soldier silhouette, which was the centre piece at the War Memorial; also thanks to Steve and Margaret Edkins who cleared the War Memorial area and dressed the bench with the extra poppies, which were made from used plastic drinks bottles; and thanks to Jan Johnson who refreshed the flowers; and also to Jon and Lorraine fryer to putting up and taking down the lamp post poppies.

New Parish Councillor…. the Parish Council is delighted to announce that Mike Frettsome has joined the Parish Council. Mike has been in the village for 12 years although his maternal relatives can be traced back more than 400 years to this area. Mike is a keen environmentalist, being an angler, so he is especially keen on keeping our waterways clean and free from pollution. He is also keen at looking at long term issues, such as speeding through the village and of course, living on Corner Croft, parking issues.

Village Hall…. delighted to report that another grant of £3,800 has been secured for the continued refurbishment of the Hall, maybe to be used to update the toilet facilities.

Newark and Sherwood District Council (NSDC)…. are keen to point out that funds are available for small businesses who have suffered a loss of income due to COVID, please refer to the NSDC website for more details.

Thurgarton Action Against Coronavirus (TAAC)…. now back up and running, currently 13 volunteers are registered with 3 households registered for assistance. There is currently very little activity for volunteers, so, if you need assistance, or know of someone in the village who could maybe use help then please contact me.

Date of Next Meeting…. the next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 28th January at 7.30 pm, this will be a public virtual meeting, members of the public who would like to join the meeting should send their details to clerk@thurgarton.org.uk
