Reopening of church buildings for public worship

04/07/2020

Despite the announcement that church buildings may open for public worship from 4th July, the 7 churches of the Benefice of West Trent will be waiting for better conditions before doing so.

The predominant concern is our ‘duty of care’ towards members of congregations, communities and leaders. In extensive discussions we have addressed our own set of 5 criteria for reopening. A helpful summary and conclusions for each criteria are to be found by following this link:

https://www.beneficeofwesttrent.org/covid-19

This is disappointing but the sensible and right decision. Preparations will be underway with a view to beginning to open up from September.

You are welcome to visit any of the churches which are all open at some point every week. The days/times are to be found on the home page of our website

https://www.beneficeofwesttrent.org

Weddings and funerals can now take place in church but with strict limitations in place.

Every blessing

Phil

Parish Council Meeting 25th June

29/06/2020

Public Virtual Parish Council meeting….the Parish Council meeting was again held as a public virtual (on-line) meeting. Members of the public were able to join the virtual meeting, by sending a request for an invitation to the Parish Council prior to the meeting.

Thurgarton Emergency Plan (TEP)….The revised COVID-safe Thurgarton Road Closure Plan was announced. New guidance for flood wardens and road signage wardens will be distributed shortly. Approval was granted for the purchase of new gloves for the road signage wardens.

TAAC (Thurgarton Action against Coronavirus)….the village community support initiative started by the Parish Council, the TCA and the WI continues to serve 31 households in Thurgarton with shopping, prescriptions and postal services. Huge thanks and appreciation were sent to all TAAC Volunteers who are now into their 14th week of service. If anyone needs assistance or would like to help TAAC Users then please contact me at taac@thurgarton.org.uk

Community Speed Watch (CSW)….are once again in action after a review and adopting a few COVID-safe measures. As before, the CSW volunteers will be physically supported by Police Officers from time to time and it is the Police who decide on any actions taken against motorists who are recorded speeding, by also taking into account any other transgressions within Nottinghamshire Police area. Many thanks are sent to the CSW Volunteers for their efforts in trying to keep the Parishioners safe from speeding motorists.

Parish Council spend in 2019/20….a review of budget figures for 2019/20 was made, comparing these to the actual spends across the various categories – Administration, Emergency Measures, Planning, Highways and Broadband, Village Hall, Communication and Environment. Overall there was very little difference in figures between budget and actual spend with the exception of one extraordinary item – the purchase of a pump for £400 which had not been budgeted for. The pump will be paid for from Community Infrastructure Levy funds.

Village Hall….Village Hall refurbishment work is now well underway and is due to complete, inside and outside, by the end of August.

Environment….Despite the weather, lots of both rain and sunshine, there has been a lot of work and the village is looking very well maintained.

Date of Next Meeting…
The next meeting of Thurgarton Parish Council will be on Thursday, 23rd July at 7.30 pm, this will be a public virtual meeting, members of the public who would like to join the meeting should send their details to clerk@thurgarton.org.uk

The reopening of church buildings in the Benefice of West Trent

21/06/2020

On 12th June the government announced that church buildings could be  reopened ‘for individual prayer’ with ‘significant limitations’.

Public worship is still not possible, although funerals can be held in a church if applying the same restrictions as for committals presently.

In the Benefice of West Trent we have 7 church buildings, valued for their beauty and interest, their spiritual ambience and meaning. It will not be   possible to reopen them all at the same time, not least because of the cleaning regime required. The last thing we would want is for a church building to be a potential source of C-19, so it is better to err on the side of caution.

Each church has to do a rigorous risk assessment, agreed by incumbent, churchwardens and PCC prior to reopening.

Here are the days/times of reopening around the Benefice as at present.

Bleasby, St Mary’s – Sundays (mid-am to dusk)

Halloughton, St James – Sundays (10am – 6pm)

Hoveringham, St Michael & All Angels – Fridays (day light hours)

Morton, St Denis – Wednesdays (10am – 3pm)

Rolleston, Holy Trinity – remaining closed

St Peter’s Priory, Thurgarton – Saturdays (8am – 8pm)

St Peter & St Paul, Upton – daily (10am – 5pm except Mondays)

You are more than welcome to visit as an individual or in your ‘bubble’,   following the notices in the church to guide you. People are working really hard to reopen but some are awaiting circumstances to change a bit more before they do.

Any questions or comments are welcome to myself or the churchwardens of the church.

Best wishes
